Are you in the right business for your love language? (it might be more relevant than you think!)

Nov 05, 2024
Are you in the right love language for your business? A businesswoman with her two dogs.

This theory is just for fun… but it could be more relevant than you think!

Our preferred method of giving and receiving affection can look different for everyone and extends further than just our relationships.

And if you don’t want to think about it as your ‘love language’, just think about it as the way you connect through two-way sharing in your life. No matter what that looks like.

What are the five love languages?

Originally theorised by author and counsellor Dr. Gary Chapman, the five love languages are used to identify how different people give and receive love in different ways.

These are:

🎁 Receiving gifts

💁‍♀️ Acts of service

⏰ Quality time

📣 Words of affirmation (ie: praise)

🫂 Physical touch

When we give and receive in our love language, we feel more fulfilled and connected to those around us.

Feeling fulfilled and connected at work. Sounds pretty good, right?

How do these relate to business?

We were curious and hadn't seen anyone else draw the two concepts from Chapman's theory together so we thought we'd have some fun and ask the question…

Are we attracted to business models that reflect our love language?

And what happens when you’re working in a role that doesn’t necessarily service that language? How can you overcome minor roadblocks that come your way?

Are you truly aligned with your business?

If you already know your primary love language, then you’ll likely find it easier to identify how this relates to your business.

But if it’s something you haven’t given much thought to, think about how you best connect with the people in your life. Is it through giving them gifts? Praising them? Taking them out for a day? (if you’re really keen, you can take the love language quiz).

How are we attracted to working in ways that reflect our love language?

This could look like:

🎁 Receiving gifts = eCommerce

💁‍♀️ Acts of Service = community/online course

⏰ Quality time = 1-on-1 service

📣 Words of affirmation = writing, creating content, keynote speaking

🫂 Physical touch = hairdresser, massage therapist, doctor, etc.

It’s no secret that to truly excel in business you should be passionate about what you do.

If you’re feeling a bit of a disconnect, could it be because your business doesn’t serve you in the way that you like?

Think about:

🤔 What industry are you in and how does it relate to your love language? (eg: are you all about receiving gifts but your offering is service based?)

🤔 How can you incorporate more of the language you want into your offering?

How to feel more connected in business

How we feel in business has a direct impact on how we feel in life.

So, whether your business is aligned with your love language or not, think about how you can enhance that language to feel even more fulfilled in your business and beyond.

How could you…

🎁 Enhance or create that giving experience? – By providing bonus/secret gifts if they spend over $X on a product? By sending welcome packs out to new service clients or by providing personalised videos.

💁‍♀️ Create a bubbling and vibrant community? – So it becomes the centre point of your offering?

⏰ Build additional value? – By nurturing your customers or clients after a purchase/1:1 call? (even if it’s via automation – when done well!)

📣 Connect more deeply after a purchase or service? - With some kind words in a handwritten note or a QR code to a video from the founder.

🫂 Show your support or feelings? – Through attending events, vouchers for physical experiences (like a massage), or when being there in-person isn’t possible, through your body language in videos, meetings, images, etc. Texturised packaging for products.

Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule (or theory).

We believe everyone should feel fulfilled and connected in what they do.

And you should too!
